At Camp Mini-Yo-We, we talk a lot about our Leadership Pathway. Our mission is to develop tomorrow’s leaders, and we have designed a clear path to help them grow, experience new things, and gain opportunities they won’t find in many other places. I love our Leadership Pathway because young leaders can join anytime and still learn and grow so much—but I also love seeing people complete each step.
From Camper to Staff Member
In particular, the transition from Leaders In Training (LIT) to being on staff is a very exciting experience. Every aspect of our programming is designed to serve campers first. We hire staff members specifically to support campers, ensuring they have amazing opportunities to have fun and learn about Jesus. When people transition to being on our staff team, the focus shifts from being served to serving others. It’s a big change, but one that helps young leaders grow in maturity, confidence, and responsibility.
Developing Skills & Faith
Serving on staff at Camp Mini-Yo-We builds on everything learned during the LIT program, which focuses on understanding leadership and the unique culture of Mini-Yo-We. On staff, young leaders get to put those lessons into practice in a meaningful way. Being responsible for campers’ safety, fun, and spiritual growth helps develop practical skills like time management, communication, and teamwork. These skills don’t just help during the summer—they make balancing school, friends, church, and extracurriculars throughout the year much easier.
Another amazing part of being on staff is the focus on spiritual growth. LITs learn about personal discipleship and leading others spiritually. Being on staff challenges them to take initiative in their spiritual walk. Pouring into the lives of others naturally encourages them to grow deeper in their faith. It’s a unique opportunity to see how God can work through you while also shaping you in the process.
Investing in Yourself & Others
Many LITs share how much they grew in confidence during their summer. Being on staff provides the chance to continue that growth. The lessons learned in LIT about being a good leader—and a good Mini-Yo-We leader—come to life while working at Camp. They gain even more insight, grow stronger connections, and become an even more effective leader as they apply what they’ve learned. Plus, they make lifelong friends and have a lot of fun along the way!
The impact of each staff member goes beyond just the campers they serve. It’s a ripple effect: leadership, kindness, and being an example can change someone else’s life, just like others may have done for them. The skills, relationships, and memories gained stay with staff members for years to come. Being part of the team is an investment in yourself and others, one that prepares you to lead wherever God takes you next.
