Becca SjongerSummer Staff

Want a summer job that develops your leadership, character and faith? Join Camp Mini-Yo-We’s team! Jane, a returning staff member, confirms: “Working at Camp will connect you with a community of friends, deepen your relationship with Jesus and totally transform your life.” Follow the steps below to get hired and spend your summer at Mini-Yo-We on Mary Lake in Muskoka!

Get Informed

To learn about the many benefits of working at Mini-Yo-We, the available roles and other need-to-know details, visit our Summer Staff webpage. If you’d like more info, fill out the online form on the page to connect with Anna Temple, our Team Development Coordinator. She’s happy to answer all of your questions about being on staff!

Apply Online

Whether you’re new to Mini-Yo-We or returning staff, completing our online application form is the first step toward joining our team. If you don’t know exactly which role you want or the dates you’re available, we can help you figure that out later. On the application, you’ll be asked to:

  • Provide contact information
  • List relevant school and work experience
  • Answer a few questions to help us figure out which role best aligns with your heart, experience and skills

Don’t stress: the application is not a test! It simply gives us an idea of who you are, your skills and interests, and why you want to serve at Camp. The information you share will be the basis for a more in-depth conversation in your interview.

Reference Checks

All staff must supply references as part of their applications—returning staff need one reference and first-time staff need three. For most roles, these should include a spiritual reference (ideally a pastor or small group leader), as well as two past employers, adult family friends or mentors. Our Human Resources Coordinator, Becca Sjonger, will email them a link to the reference form.

Book Your Interview

After submitting your application, check your inbox (or spam folder) for a confirmation email from Mike Reimer, our Summer Programs Director. It will outline your next steps and includes a link to book your interview at a time that works well for you.

Telephone Interview

Anna Temple interviews most applicants for Program roles. Potential Operations staff usually chat with the manager of their team. Interviews cover:

  • What a summer at Camp Mini-Yo-We looks like
  • The opportunities we have available
  • Your experiences, skills and heart for leadership
  • Any questions or concerns you may have
  • The next steps in the process

During your interview, we want to get to know you and hear about why you’d like to serve with us. Here are a few tips:

  • Offer details! The more information you can give us, the better.
  • Ask questions! This is your chance to clarify what we do and how you might serve with us.
  • Remember that we want your interview to go well just as much as you do! Relax and enjoy the conversation.

Get a Job Offer

After we make a hiring decision, you will receive a job offer email that includes a job description. It’s the perfect time to reach out if you have any questions or need to change your dates. You will also get a link to add your profile to our Camp Mini-Yo-We Staff Faces Book. This is an opportunity for our team to introduce themselves before the summer.

Sign Your Contract

Once your references are complete, your contract will be emailed to you. It shows your role, dates and honorarium if serving for four or more weeks. Review the details, sign your contract and send it back to Camp. Once again, let us know if any amendments are needed. We’re flexible!

Complete the Hiring Process

When we’ve received your signed-back contract, you’ll get an email listing any paperwork or training needed to complete the hiring process. The documents collected vary depending on your age, your role and how long you are serving with us. When everything is received, we’ll welcome you to the team!

Connect With the Team

In the months leading up to Summer 2024, our staff WhatsApp chat will provide updates and opportunities for connection. You will also get details about our staff training, which starts in the last week of June.

Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook! We also have a MYW staff Instagram where we post about upcoming events and staff news.
