I am writing to share some important news regarding Camp Mini-Yo-We’s leadership. After much reflection, Rich Birch has decided to transition out of his role as Executive Director to pursue other opportunities. Rich has been an invaluable leader and advocate for our camp. His dedication, vision and passion have significantly contributed to the growth and success of our mission. We are deeply grateful for his hard work and commitment.
Since joining the team as Executive Director during the summer of 2016, Rich has done an incredible job growing and developing Mini-Yo-We. His vision and guidance have enabled the physical site to undergo a major transformation – the addition of the triple zipline, new camper and staff bathrooms across the entire site, new docks at all three sites, the rebuilding of campfire point, and numerous infrastructure (landscaping, roads, pathways) upgrades. He has invested heavily in the development of the Leadership Pathway which has helped so many campers and staff become impactful young leaders. Covid-19 was challenging for the summer camp industry and Rich led Mini-Yo-We incredibly well through what seemed like an impossible situation. Most importantly, his strong Christian leadership has been a great example to others and ensured that every aspect of camp life points towards the love and teachings of Christ. Future generations owe a debt of gratitude for his outstanding service. Rich has always held close the mantra of “leave it better than you found it”. He is a true servant leader and has done just that.
Camp has also been blessed by the level of commitment that Rich’s family has shown. His wife, Christine, and children, Haley and Hunter, have not only offered Rich their unwavering support, but they have all served in various roles during his time as Executive Director. We thank them for their contributions, the sacrifices they have made, their prayers, and for the way they have shared the love and passion Rich has for Mini-Yo-We.
While we will certainly miss Rich, we understand and support his decision to move on to new opportunities. He has repeatedly demonstrated that he is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition during this period. We are pleased to let you know that Rich remains committed to our fundraising dinner on November 7th and will be overseeing all aspects of this event. He will transition out of the Executive Director role later in November.
Our Board is actively working to find a successor who will continue to build and support the mission of Mini-Yo-We. We have a strong year round staff team that will continue to deliver programs, communication, and facility upkeep and improvements during this time. We will keep you informed about this process and any updates on the new appointment. Please keep the Board and the hiring team in your prayers as we seek to fill this very important role. I can be reached at steve@miniyowe.com if you have any questions or would like to connect.
In the meantime, please join us in expressing our heartfelt thanks to Rich for his exceptional leadership and dedication. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
Steve Gibson
Board Chair
