What Are People Saying About Camp?

It's normal for parents to have questions or concerns when sending their children to camp. This page is a forum for parents to encourage other parents, share their Mini-Yo-We experiences and provide helpful tips.

Parents Say...

"I was worried about how my two boys would cope with being on their own but they came home confident, more independent and sure of themselves." ~ Freyda [both sons went to Junior Camp and are now in Boys Camp]

There's More!

"My son had a diet of only two or three things. His sister had been at camp the year before and he wanted desperately to go as well. At 7 years old he talked me into going and he came home eating three or four new things. Each year he tried many new foods and liked them." - Joy

"Our daughter got sick while she was at camp. Her counsellor took her to the nurse and she was better in no time. She was well taken care of." - A dad who wishes to remain anonymous

"We had a very active child and I worried that the counsellors might not be able to handle the energy. To our surprise they loved the energy and gave our child opportunities to burn it off." - Former MYW camper from the '60s

"The Camp Mini-Yo-We experience was very positive from start to finish.  We had heard great things about the camp but now we can say great things too!  Drop-off was well- organized and the staff friendly and helpful.  Our son who is quite shy, socially, was warmly welcomed by the counsellors who were sensitive and respectful of his space.Samuel enjoyed many aspects of camp but as Christian parents we were delighted when he remarked, "Worship was fun and I really liked the skits. Thank you, Camp Mini-Yo-We"  - Vicki

"Our daughter has attended camp since age 3, as a grasshopper - this year she was in the Enterprise program. We have always been impressed by the youth leaders - this one week each year is the highlight of the summer - the spiritual encouragement all our children have received at camp is evident. Our daughter plans to return next year to participate in the LIT program. Thanks for a great experience!"  - 2010 Mini-Yo-We parent

" Mini-Yo-We offers everything I could possibly want in a summer camp; visionary leadership, dedicated staff members, unsurpassed location, and facilities (which are constantly being expanded and improved) that offer exciting opportunities for campers of all ages. I am grateful that my children have had the privilege of attending Mini-Yo-We and experience such an enriching atmosphere."
- Steve Baldry, Director of Childrens Education, Chedoke Presbyterian Church, Hamilton

"Mini-Yo-We was foundational in my development. I use the leadership lessons I learned as a cabin leader and section head all the time. The world needs more Mini-Yo-We!"
- Rich Birch, Operations Pastor, Liquid Church, NY

Tips for Making Mini-Yo-We a Great Experience
  • Encourage your child to look at the brochure or website, so he or she can see what Camp has to offer.
  • Contact our office and request a DVD, so your child can take a closer look.
  • Get him or her to ask a friend to come too, and request that they stay in the same cabin. You can fill out this info on the camp application.
  • Involve your child in deciding which activities to register for.
  • Bring your child to the Open House held on the last Sunday afternoon in May.
  • Involve your child in packing so he or she knows what was brought to Camp. Let's face it, campers are going to wear their favourite things. If they get too dirty, the counsellor will encourage campers to change.
  • Don't over-pack. Too many clothes will be hard to keep track of.
  • Make sure to disclose if your child has a learning disability or other disability.
  • Remember to hand in any medication your child is taking. Camp isn't a good time to discontinue any meds unless your doctor tells you to.
