A Strong Heritage and a Bright Future!
We are excited to keep you up-to-date on our capital campaign, A Strong Heritage and a Bright Future! The overall goal of the campaign is to allow us to continue, improve and expand our ability to fulfill our mission: "To reach and disciple young people for Jesus Christ through excellence in camping and retreat programs."
Our original goal for the campaign was to raise $1,500,000 by 2009. Thanks to the strong support of Camp's friends and alumni we were well on our way with almost $900,000 pledged or given by the summer of 2008. The recession in 2008 stalled the campaigns progress however we are now well on our way to reaching our revised goal of 1.2 million.
most people continued to fulfill their pledges, but there were few new pledges. So far the capital campaign has surpassed the three-quarters mark with over $925,000 in committed pledges. In January 2010 Mini-Yo-We's board decided to reduce the scope of the campaign to 1.2 million dollars. The revised campaign does not include a central office and tuck shop or a new public and staff washroom at Girls Camp. The need and timing for these facilities will be reassessed upon completion of the revised campaign.
Camp operated at or near capacity, particularly during the core weeks of the summer, for several years prior to 2008. Even in 2009, there were waiting lists at Junior Camp (the Chemawa site) for many weeks. We can reach more children both in the summer and year-round if we have more space. When the campaign is complete, there will be room for an additional 40 campers in each of the seven core weeks at Chemawa. This same facility will also support an expanding commitment to the year-round programs for school outdoor education and recreation programs, and for youth group and adult retreats. The development continues the work of the previous 10 years to replace or renovate old structures and services to reliably serve campers for the next 50 years!

Capital campaigns can feel overwhelming to most of us. To break it down, campaigns like these typically need one donor at $250,000, five donors at $30,000-$50,000 and perhaps 100 donors at between $1,000 and $10,000. Very few can even think about the first category, a few more the second, while most can manage the last. Please consider supporting the ministry in this way and leaving a legacy for the kingdom of God.
