Standard Instructions

When you register for summer Camp, you will sign up for instructions that you will take every morning. Our instructors will help you develop your skills, stretch your abilities, and bring you to the next level. You will choose two instructions from the following list (some instructions take up both periods):

  • Archery
  • Canoeing
  • Guitar (BYO)
  • Kayaking
  • Mountain Biking
  • Skateboarding & Inline Skating
  • Swimming
  • Sailing (must be 11)
  • Ropes Course (must be 12)
  • Rock Climbing (must be 12)
  • Windsurfing (must be 12)

Canoeing

Where You'll Learn It: At the Boys Camp waterfront in our boating area. We've got all the equipment needed, including paddles and life jackets that are the right size for you.
Who Will Teach It: Staff who have taken instruction on how to teach canoeing, many of whom have been on multiple canoe trips and have their Canadian Life Saving Society Bronze Cross certification.
What to Bring:
- Bathing suit
- Sunscreen
- Towel
 
 
What It Is: Set sail on Mary Lake! Learn how to rig and steer a sailboat with your friends. Over the week you'll learn everything you need to know to sail a small, three-person boat, plus how to tie nautical knots and boating safety.
Where You'll Learn It: At the Boys Camp sailing waterfront in our boating area. We've got all the equipment needed, including life jackets that are the right size for you.
Who Will Teach It: Staff who have taken instruction in teaching sailing and have their Ontario Boating License and Canadian Life Saving Society Bronze Cross certification.
What to Bring:
- Bathing suit
- Sunscreen

Windsurfing - you must be at least 12 years old (by December 31) to participate in Windsurfing
What It Is: Ride the waves of Mary Lake while learning to windsurf! You'll learn how to rig a board, balance yourself properly and sail standing up.
Where You'll Learn It: Our windsurfing area is shallow for learning in but you'll get the chance to windsurf out in the lake, too.
Who Will Teach It: Staff who have taken instruction in teaching windsurfing and have their Canadian Life Saving Society Bronze Cross certification.
What to Bring:

Kayaking
What It Is: Over the week you'll learn how to paddle, do wet exits in case you tip, do all kinds of strokes and maybe even go on a trip to the island! Advanced kayakers can try a roll.
Where You'll Learn It: At the Boys Camp waterfront in our boating area. We've got all the equipment needed, including paddles and life jackets that are the right size for you.
Who Will Teach It: Staff who have taken instruction on how to teach kayaking and have their Canadian Life Saving Society Bronze Cross certification.
What to Bring:
- Bathing suit
- Sunscreen
- Towel
 
 

Swimming You'll love swimming in Mary Lake. We've got instructors who will help you work toward your Life Saving Society swimming levels and teach you water safety.
Where You'll Learn It: All our campsites at Mini-Yo-We have their own waterfront for swimming lessons and free swims. We have both shallow and deep (including diving) areas to accommodate different swimming levels.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors certified by the Canadian Life Saving Society.
What to Bring:
- Bathing suit
- Sunscreen
- Towel
 
What It Is: Camp Mini-Yo-We has hiking trails, wildlife to observe and all kinds of special things to discover. Learn how to build a campfire, make a shelter and identify plants and animals. You will likely see deer and perhaps a wild turkey!
Where You'll Learn It: All over Mini-Yo-We! There are trails and wildlife all over Camp that you'll get to explore. We also have a cabin in the woods that acts as a home base and an out-tripping building where all our supplies are kept.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who have taken wilderness training and have camping experience.
What to Bring:
- Running shoes or hiking boots
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Bug spray
- Water bottle
 
 
 
Skateboarding/Inline Skating
What It Is: Drop into our fully enclosed half-pipe and spend your week in our newly remodeled skate park. Perfect your kick flip, learn how to ollie and more.
Where You'll Learn It: In our new skate park, which includes a fully enclosed half-pipe.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who love skateboarding as much as you do!
What to Bring:
- If you have a skateboard, feel free to bring it
- Helmet, elbow and knee pads (or use ours)
- Running shoes or skate shoes
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
 
What It Is: Spend a week of instruction periods riding our trails, and learn how to set up your bike, proper riding techniques and try to master our jump course. 
Where You'll Learn It: We've got trails all over Camp plus a biking course where you can work on your technique and tricks.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who love biking and know all the trails around Camp.
What to Bring:
- Your bike and helmet if you wish
- Bug spray
- Running shoes
- Water bottle

Archery
What It Is: Learn how to hit the bull's eye with a bow and arrow! You'll learn proper stance, technique and aim.
Where You'll Learn It: At our archery range located between Girls Camp and Discovery Camp.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who have been trained in archery.
What to Bring:
- Running shoes
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray
- Water bottle
 
Rock Climbing- you must be at least 12 years old (by December 31) to participate in Rock Climbing. This instruction takes both instruction periods.  
What It Is: Like living life on the edge? You'll love rock climbing on our natural outdoor rock face and indoor rock wall.
Where You'll Learn It: Camp Mini-Yo-We is fortunate to have a naturally occurring rock face for you to learn on, plus an indoor rock wall located in the Discovery Camp lodge.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors qualified in teaching rock climbing.
What to Bring:
- Running shoes
- Bug spray
- Water bottle





High Ropes Course
- you must be at least 12 years old (by December 31) to participate in High Ropes.  This instruction takes both instruction periods.
What It Is: No, this isn't a skill where you learn how to tie knots! Camp Mini-Yo-We has outdoor high and low rope courses. Climb the vertical playground, take a "leap of faith" or test your stomach on the giant swing. If you like climbing and heights, you'll love ropes!
Where You'll Learn It: On our ropes course located across from the rock wall.
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who are qualified to teach ropes and have all necessary safety training.
What to Bring:
- Running shoes
- Bug spray
- Water bottle

Guitar
What It Is: Whether you are learning your first chords or want to jam all morning, you can sign up for guitar instruction. What better place to be inspired to play than in God's beautiful wilderness!
Where You'll Learn It: In the Boys Camp dining lodge
Who Will Teach It: Instructors who are part of the worship band will teach you how to make your guitar sing.
What to Bring:
- A guitar
